For this New York Fashion Week Day 2, no catwalks but only presentations.

I like presentations. Of course there isn’t the whole decorum of a runway, but you can take your time and you get to really see the collections, which is the actual purpose of all that, even though we tend to forget it…

Two presentations this Friday with two iconic New York brands and two completely different styles : KATE SPADE and COACH.

It’s in this kind of situation that I realize I have a stylistic schizophrenia. You won’t be surprised to know that I really loved both presentations, since you know how much I love both brands. And yet they are totally different, in their inspirations as well as in their style, which reminded me that I have very eclectic tastes.

First, KATE SPADE NEW YORK.

The collection really reflected the brand : retro, elegant, fun and colorful!

On my wishlist : the bag that looks like a Chinese take-out (I want it!), the Lucky Cat bag (cuteness overload), the neon anise green coat (huge crush), the red glitter sunglasses (Dorothy’s sunnies) and the powder pink glitter stilettos.

I also really liked the models’ manicure (I’m completely addicted to nude nail polish), the leopard touches, the bird cage bag, the black flared skirt with the metallic derbies and socks, the leather gloves.

A quick taxi ride and I entered a totally different world with the COACH presentation.

It was the first time Coach organized such a presentation during the Fashion Week, and it gave the brand the opportunity to mark a turning point with the arrival of Stuart Vevers as the new Executive Creative Director and their willingness to develop their first ready-to-wear collection.

What a success!

The atmosphere was quiet, beautiful, cosy. The collection draws inspiration from the ochre and orange palette of Joel Sternfeld’s photos. It’s gorgeously edgy, much more than you’d expect when you think of Coach and its beautifully classic leather goods.

Some items are borrowed from the male wardrobe, some from western movies, with a lot of shearling and suede leather, all this in a very “road trip in the 70’s” inspiration. The style is urban and modern, and includes Coach heritage even in little details, such as the famous Turnlocks on a pair of low boots.

On my wishlist : the (drop-dead gorgeous) ice blue shearling, the “shearling creepers without laces” in cognac and black, the skin-out oversize clutch, the red duffle coat, the teddy, the patchwork coat… I’d better stop there!

Congratulations to COACH for this first Fashion Week and for this amazingly edgy and beautiful collection.

I hope you liked my pictures! I look forward to hearing your opinions on both collections. Which items are going to be added to your wishlist?

More tomorrow!

    xx
